Michael Theo was dismissed towards the end of a meeting with Adelaide United, forcing an outfield team-mate to go in goal and face a late penalty
An A-League encounter between Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar appeared to be heading for a 1-1 draw before late drama erupted deep into stoppage-time.
In the 97th minute of the contest, Brisbane goalkeeper Michael Theo tangled with Dylan McGowan.
Having thrown an elbow in the direction of his opponent, Theo was subsequently shown a red card.

With the incident having occurred inside the penalty area, a spot-kick was also awarded against him.
The Roar had already used all three of their substitutes by that stage, forcing midfielder Thomas Kristensen to take over between the sticks.
He was unable to provide a moment of inspiration, though, and saw Sergio Cirio convert from 12 yards to steal the win for Adelaide.
